English Classes with Community at the Center
Bridging Cultures' ESL program is more than just learning English; it’s about building connection, confidence, and community.
The program offers both beginner and intermediate level classes, welcoming individuals who are just starting to learn English as well as those looking to strengthen their skills. Classes are focused on practical communication and real-life situations, helping students feel more comfortable and confident navigating daily life.
What truly sets this program apart is the environment. From shared meals and childcare to special outings and interactive lessons, each class night is designed to support the whole family while creating meaningful opportunities for learning and connection.
Every Class Begins with a Meal
Each class night begins with a shared meal, offering students, instructors, and volunteers the chance to connect in a relaxed and welcoming setting. This time together helps foster a sense of community and makes each evening feel warm and supportive.
Childcare and Tutoring
While adults attend class, childcare is provided onsite, with crafts, games, and engaging activities available for young children. School-aged children have access to tutoring and homework support, allowing the entire family to benefit from the evening’s programming.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
Classes emphasize real-world English skills that students can immediately apply in their daily lives. In addition to classroom instruction, the program includes a variety of interactive learning experiences, such as:
Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers play a vital role in creating a positive, supportive experience for all participants. Opportunities include tutoring ESL students, helping children with homework, leading crafts and activities, assisting with meal prep and food service, and even hosting special outings or skill-based workshops. Whether volunteering once or every week, community members are encouraged to get involved and make a difference. For more information on volunteering, please contact Ivette Aguirre at (971) 825-2477.
Powered by Community Support
This program is primarily funded through grants and individual donations, and continued community support is essential to keeping it free and accessible for all. Contributions help provide meals, classroom supplies, childcare, and cover other program costs. Every donation and act of support helps strengthen a program that brings language access, opportunity, and connection to local families.
Bridging Cultures is also deeply grateful for the support of its community partners. The Canby Public Library, Clackamas Community College, Zion Mennonite Church, Zoar Lutheran Church, and Canby Kiwanis have all played a key role in helping the ESL program thrive. Whether by offering space, resources, volunteers, or collaboration; their partnership makes this work possible and strengthens the collective impact across the community.
